Baan Ngaow Learning Center located in Ranong Province aims to provide basic education, occupational skills and cultural activities to those disadvantaged children, single mothers and people who are in dire need of help in order to establish self-reliance within the communities in that area.
Besides, the center has been setting up as an alternative school or a learning center for Burmese children who flee from Burma since the Cyclone Nargis. These kids do not meet the requirements of Thailand standard school; therefore, could not apply to study. We don’t want them to lose interest in education or worse thinking of being theft or prostitute instead. Education as we seen is not only important to the children as individual but also to the whole community.
The project objectives are to provide basic education, cultural activities and basis occupational skills for those desperate Burmese children to have a brighter hope and better living condition in the future.
Secondly, to be a learning center for both Thai and Burmese children including single mothers whose lack of working skills to have opportunity in developing thier skills.
Lastly, to create opportunity for international volunteers to work and learn difference cultures (Thai - Myanmar) and contribute their knowledge to create learning opportunities for these children.
Volunteers are very necessary and welcome to the projects. The work that you will be carrying out is certainly meaningful and your presence here is extremely valuable. Depends on the project involved, volunteers usually work a six-day week for 8 hours per day.
Job scopes include coordinating, planning, executing programs, teaching and running the activities. Most importantly, we need ideas from volunteers to make Baan Ngaow a lively place to live, to let children and community have a feel of belonging. Volunteers are expected to help each other in different projects, give ideas and make sure the smooth running of the projects.
